WHAT'S ON IN ROME Agenda for Upcoming Events in August 2010 (subject to alteration)
In August 2010, the CIM Rome Committee hope to welcome some 10.000 altar boys and girls (mostly from European countries) to Rome. For the time being, we have agreed on the following joint international events on the occasion of the Rome Pilgrimage in 2010:
Tuesday, August 3rd 2010, approx. 5pm – 8.30pm International Jubilee CIM-Meeting
-
On the programme are music, songs and carols, interviews, international guests, and – first and foremost – very special joint evening prayers.
- A supporting programme of music and short interviews will start at 4.00 pm.
And here is what you may expect!
-
Tanja from Luxemburg and Michael from Switzerland will give you a friendly hello on your arrival at St Peter’s Square. The altar boys and girls from Switzerland will talk about the statue which they put up of St Tarsitius. Young People from Trier in Germany will present the legend of Tarsitius who is, after all, the patron saint of altar boys and girls.
-
The programme of music – including many well known international songs as well as a number of new songs – will be presented by a band and chorus from Hamburg, Germany.
-
Evening prayers will be lead by the Rev Weisgerber from Luxemburg. The texts will largely be selected from the Book of Psalms. And, being a large international congregation, we will praise the Lord with song and music.
-
At the end of the evening you will be invited to mutually exchange your pilgrim’s shawls.
Wednesday, August 4th 2010, from approx. 8.30am onwards: Supporting programme to the General Audience
- The programme includes meditations (prepared by bishops and altar boys and girls from different nations), songs and carols, and interviews.
- The General Audience will commence at 10.00 am approx. and last until noon.
And here is what you may expect!
-
In four steps, bishops and young people from from France, Hungary and Germany will expound the motto of the 2010 Pilgrimage (‚Drinking Waters from the True Well‘) and its meaning for our everyday lives.
-
An official from the Vatican will welcome all national groups of young pilgrims one by one.
-
After that, the Holy Father will arrive at St Peter’s Square. Bishop suffragan Martin Gächter, Persident oft he CIM, will offer him the only white Pilgrim’s Shawl (all the other shawls of the CIM Rome Pilgrimage are coloured). Pope Benedikt will address us and he will join our service and festivity.
- We will have music provided by the band and chorus from Hamburg.
